Filming the Fantasy: Green Screen Technology from Novelty to Psychotherapy
Jon Ehinger, ATR-BC,LCAT
Abstract
Green screen technology has long been used to fully realize a filmmaker’s creative and artistic vision; meanwhile, recent studies have explored the use of therapeutic filmmaking to create insight and lasting change in therapy. This chapter combines those two worlds by describing how the therapeutic use of green screen technology offers transformative healing powers to a client by allowing them to virtually relive internalized experiences or invent new ones. The therapeutic process is outlined through the inclusion of case vignettes, technological requirements are stated, and theoretical links to Jung’s concept of active imagination and Winnicot’s play space are explored.
